I grabbed this book from Barnes & Noble the last time hubby and I were out book-browsing, which was on our anniversary. I just liked the cover art, and the cheeky subtitle.

And the book itself did not disappoint. It was irreverent, unapologetic, laugh-out-loud funny. Jen Lancaster is who she is, and she makes no excuses for that. What makes her brilliant is that she is both confident enough to be someone you can respect, but self-effacing enough to be one of those girls you’d love to hang out with and gossip about the neighbors.

The book covers her fall from employment grace, when she loses her high-paying corporate job due (at least in part) to the economic downturn. She applies at successively less well-paying jobs and lands nothing. Her self-esteem and living conditions suffer, and she comes to realize what is really important, and what from her “previous” life was simply self-indulgent excess.

The book was a great beach read, and as soon as I was done with it, I rushed out and got every other book by Jen on the market.
